April: Establishing My Baseline - My First DEXA scan

April Update: My First Full Month on ketoCONTINUUM

April marks my first full month on the ketoCONTINUUM journey: a journey to support my brain health, clear my fatty liver, and improve my overall metabolic wellness.

Seeing the Bigger Picture: My DEXA Scan

This month, someone generously gifted me a voucher for a DEXA scan. The process itself was simple and easy, and the technician was very helpful in explaining the results.

Seeing the truth of my body composition was confronting. However, it was also incredibly helpful. It gave me a clearer picture of where I am starting from and confirmed why this journey matters so much to me: I want to heal from the inside out.

I chose to do a DEXA scan because bathroom scales do not tell the whole story, however a Body DEXA gives you the details of how much lean tissue, fat tissue and bone mass your body is comprised of.

These numbers are not here to shame me. They are information—an honest baseline that helps me understand my body and track the changes ahead.

My Glucose, Ketone, GKI/Dr Boz Ratio

At the beginning of the month, my readings were:

  • Blood glucose: 4.9 mmol/L
  • Blood ketones: 2.3 mmol/L
  • GKI: 2.1
  • Dr Boz Ratio: 38

During the month, I had a couple of days where my glucose reached 5.2 mmol/L. My lowest glucose reading was 4.1 mmol/L, while my highest ketone reading was 3.8 mmol/L.

By the end of my first full month, my numbers had improved to:

  • Blood glucose: 4.3 mmol/L
  • Blood ketones: 3.4 mmol/L
  • GKI: 1.3
  • Dr Boz Ratio: 23

I am encouraged to see these changes. They remind me that the small, consistent choices I am making each day are adding up.

Weight, Waist Circumference and BMI Progress

I started April at 81 kg (178.57 lb) and finished at 80.7 kg (177.91 lb), a loss of 0.3 kg (0.66 lb).

My BMI moved from 24.7 to 24.6—a small change of 0.1. While the scale is only one part of the picture, I am learning to appreciate every sign of progress and to stay focused on long-term healing rather than quick results.

I started the month with a waist circumference of 94 cm (37.01 in) and at the end of the month it is now 91 cm (35.83 in), that is a change of 3 cm (1.18 in).

Final Thoughts

One month in, I am grateful for the progress, the growing knowledge, and the opportunity to take better care of myself. This is not about perfection. It is about showing up, being consistent, and trusting that healing happens one day at a time.

Here’s to continuing the journey in May.
